NEW YORK CITY-New York University is reportedly adding the World Trade Center to its list of possible expansion sites, according to published reports. The New York Post and the Associated Press both reported Tuesday that NYU VP Lynne Brown has sent a letter to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. requesting a meeting.
When it unveiled its expansion plan earlier this spring, the university acknowledged that its Greenwich Village home base couldn’t accommodate all of the six million square feet of space it plans to add. “For that reason, we would like to discuss Lower Manhattan as part of our exploration of remote sites,” she wrote in a letter dated June 11.
Specifically, the university would seek to take space in the proposed Tower 5 at the southeast corner of Ground Zero. The 1.3-million-square-foot tower would be built on the site of the former Deutsche Bank building at 130 Liberty St., currently being deconstructed.
A spokesman for the Port Authority told both the Post and the AP that the agency is willing to meet with NYU officials. To read the complete Post article, click here.
