NEW YORK CITY-Work on Lower East Side Girls Club's permanent home has begun. The club will be housed at the base of a 77-unit, 12-story apartment complex being developed by Dermot Co. The club will measure 35,000 square feet and will include a bakery, art room, a planetarium, classrooms and recording studios.

The project is expected to be complete by 2012. Of the 77 apartments, 38 units will be market-rate apartments, which will carry a $2,400 rent for a single bedroom unit. For the full story, go to Wall Street Journal.
