Bid Back - 07.27.2010 Bid Back v. 1. Counter-offer to a resignation by an employee; 2. Coughing-up more salary, cash bonus and a higher title to keep someone on the company team until you can replace him or her as soon as possible for lack of loyalty. A sure sign that business is on the road to recovery is the return of the “bid back”, today’s version of “counter-offer.” We have observed of late that employers across all sectors are increasingly concerned about losing key employees and are willing to ante-up to keep them on the bench. Historically, conventional wisdom advised to “never accept a counter-offer.” However, recently it is more acceptable, and considered okay, to accept a bid-back. My advice is that, if you do, keep a sharp lookout over your shoulder.
