BIG ISLAND, HI-According to a recent survey completed by SMS Research & Marketing Services Inc., Hawaii Island residents strongly support the $1-billion Aina Le’a LLC development known as the Villages of ‘Aina Le’a. Approximately 68% of residents said they supported the development, however when advised that the development was part of the South Kohala Community Development Plan, the support rose to 74%.

According to the survey, Hawaii Island residents recognize the need for additional residential housing on the island, as well as the economic benefits and job stimulus the development will provide. According to the SMS survey, 9% of Hawaii Island residents are currently looking to buy a home, while more than 52% of residents believe there is not an adequate supply of housing on Hawaii Island. And approximately 77% of residents support more development of housing for local residents.

The Villages of Aina Le’a is a master planned 2,300-home community, centrally located within the Kohala coast resort destination on the Big Island. When completed, the community will include bike and walking trails, parks, a regional shopping center, golf, entertainment, and a community service center.

‘Aina Le’a LLC ‘s construction of Lulana Gardens family housing, which is giving immediate support to jobs and the local economy, is important to residents. These three and four-bedroom homes are being introduced for sale next month, under the County of Hawaii’s affordable pricing guidelines. Lulana Gardens homes provide economic alternatives with reduced travel time and cost to West Hawaii residents and to those East Hawaii residents who travel each day to and from Hilo to the resort district. The results of the poll suggest a strong demand for the Lulana Gardens homes at the affordable pricing guidelines.

‘Aina Le’a LLC will release the homes for sale in groups of sixteen homes, with each group being built around individual common park areas. The release phasing supports ‘Aina Le’a’s commitment to allow first-time homebuyers the first chance to purchase the homes.

The independent poll was requested by DW Aina Le’a Development LLC to determine the support and demand for its Lulana Gardens homes. SMS Research completed a public opinion survey among 400 randomly selected Big Island residents, between July 28 and August 9, 2010.
