CHENGDU, CHINA-RTKL, an architecture, engineering and design firm, says ground has broken on a new 80-acre project here. The company is overseeing the master planning, architecture, branding and landscaping for the new 80-acre Pearl River New Town site here.

The first phase of the project will include a 1.2-million-square-foot shopping mall, a four-story structure that will include an Ito department store as an anchor. The mall will connect to a 35-story office tower, said RTKL officials.

The project will include a “Silk Walk,” a lifestyle environment lined with restaurants and shops. The site is in the Wenjiang District, along the banks of the Jiang’an River, RTKL said in a statement.
