IRVINE, CA-Real Estate legend, Don Koll, will be recognized with the Distinguished Eagle Scout award tonight at the Irvine Marriott at the Tribute to Don Koll. There are currently 700 confirmed attendees, including sponsors LBA Realty, Allen Matkins Leek Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP, Eastdil Secured, Kathi Koll, and the Argyros Family Foundation.

Koll founded the Koll Co. in Newport Beach in 1962 as a regional general construction firm. Under his leadership, the company grew into a commercial real estate giant responsible for the development of more than 90 million square feet of office, industrial and retail space throughout the Western US, Mexico and the Pacific Rim. In addition to its development activities, the Koll Co. expanded to include separate entities focused on commercial property management, golf resort community development and large-scale general construction.

Today, the refocused company operates as a well-capitalized real estate acquisition, development and management company. With a concentration on major western US markets, the Koll Co., in partnership with the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho, currently owns and manages nearly over 6 million square feet of existing multi-tenant, light industrial and suburban/garden office space in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Colorado and Utah. In joint venture with institutional investors, the company has an additional 600,000 square feet of commercial space under development in Southern California and also is developing Hacienda, an oceanfront community of 239 full-ownership homes in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

The Distinguished Eagle Scout award is granted to Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years, have distinguished themselves in their life’s work and have shared their talents with their communities on a voluntary basis. Receiving the award is a rare and special honor. First awarded in 1969, the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award has been presented to former President Gerald R. Ford, several governors and senators, military flag officers, university presidents, chief executive officers of Fortune 500 companies and nationally known attorneys, educators and doctors.

“We are truly excited to be honoring Don with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award,” says Jeff Hermann, Scout Executive for the Orange County Council of the Boy Scouts of America. “He will be the sixteenth recipient in Orange County and we can’t think of a more deserving recipient.”

An Eagle Scout, Koll served as a pilot in the US Air Force after earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Stanford University. He is a past presidential appointee to the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the American Red Cross, and has served on the boards of CB Richard Ellis, Wells Fargo Bank, the Irvine Co., and Fidelity National Title.

The Tribute will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a reception followed by dinner, entertainment and the presentation of the Distinguished Eagle Scout award at 7:00 p.m. The Boy Scouts hope to raise $1 million for the Boy Scouts. Confirmed speakers include Mary Hart, Deborah Norville, Senator Bill Frist. Letters will be read from President George Bush, Prince Charles, Nancy Reagan, and Robert Ballard—who discovered the Titanic.

Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Orange County Council, is one of the largest youth-serving agencies in the county serving more than 30,000 youth, both boys and girls, with educational programs that instill values, develop social and leadership skills, and promotes physical fitness and environmental awareness. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
