PHOENIX-The city’s first Westin hotel will open in February 2011 in downtown. The new 242-room hotel, operated by White Plains, N.Y.-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., will be located in the Freeport McMoRan Center, a new 26-story, mixed-use complex.

Located at 333 North Central Ave. just one block from the Phoenix Convention Center, the Westin Phoenix Downtown will boast oversized guest rooms averaging 550 square feet, as well as a full suite of the Westin brand’s signature amenities and services such as the Heavenly Bed.

It will feature nearly 9,000 square feet of meeting and banquet facilities including pre-function space and the latest in meeting technology. Additionally, the hotel will offer a 24-hour WestinWORKOUT gym, enabling guests to maintain their exercise program and stay in the best possible shape, physically and mentally.

The Westin Phoenix Downtown will occupy nine floors the 485,000-square-foot Freeport McMoRan Center. Originally known as One Central Park East, the property offers 2,100 square feet of ground floor retail, as well as several floors of office space and indoor parking.

Developed by National Real Estate Advisors, the real estate arm of the National Electrical Benefit Fund, the property serves as the world headquarters for Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. The mining company committed to an 185,000-square-foot lease in late 2009.

In addition to the new downtown Westin, there are more than 10 other Starwood-flagged properties in the Phoenix area including the well-known Westin Kierland Resort & Spa and The Phoenician, both in Scottsdale.
