SAN ANTONIO, TX-Nationwide Insurance will build a 300,000-square-foot facility on 25 acres in Westover Hills to accommodate its workforce expansion to more than 1,700 employees. The new facility, which is scheduled to break ground early next year, will be located at the intersection of Hyatt Resort Drive and SR 151.
The Columbus, OH-based company is under contract to buy the acreage from Westover Hills Town Center Ltd. for an undisclosed amount. It expects to close on the land sale by the end of the year, according to Nationwide Insurance spokesman Mike Switzer.
Switzer tells GlobeSt.com Nationwide Insurance currently has four leased locations in San Antonio to serve its sales and service operations. “We made a decision to grow in San Antonio and made a commitment to add 800 new jobs there by 2012,” he says. “We’ve started to hire people, and we have about 1,000 employees right now.”
Nationwide Insurance chose the Westover Hills site based on proximity to where existing employees live, as well as the presence of several other corporate users, Switzer says. The new LEED certified facility is scheduled for completion in mid-2012. Construction costs for the facility are still being finalized, and an architect has not yet been announced.
“This new facility will allow Nationwide to enhance our sales and service infrastructure, enabling us to serve a growing need for outstanding customer service in a market with an attractive, well-educated and diverse local workforce,” according to Terrance Williams, regional vice president of Nationwide’s Central Plains Region.
Sherrie Wade with Grubb & Ellis Co. was involved in the land deal, along with CBRE.
