Year-End Planning
The year-end is fast approaching and businesses are polishing up their plans for 2011 in anticipation of better times (we can only hope). However, rarely do professionals approach their careers in the same well-planned and thoughtful manner as businesses do. December is a good time to reflect on one’s own career goals and objectives. Use the month to plan ahead; update the three-year old resume, commit to networking in the new year (be out there), evaluate where you stand with your current employer and be constructively aggressive about expanding your role and taking on more responsibility. Hire a career coach to facilitate your planning process and to have a sounding-board. And I still like Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” Pick-up a copy, it’s a great road map to personal effectiveness. Heck, it’s only your career!
