Around the Corner
From the point of view of the long-awaited recovery, 2010 turned out to be a dud. It has been a fizzle, at best, although there were a couple of bright spots: The multifamily sector is on fire and hospitality, especially in major urban centers, is back on its feet. However, there are signs on the hiring front that 2011 may bring a much better year if current recruiting activity is a leading indicator. Investment platforms, service companies, REIT’s and private operating companies are all gearing-up senior-level hiring in anticipation of a broader recovery on the investment front. Most of the activity is geared to investment professionals (broadly defined), as well as individuals with strong capital raising track records. Investment managers that have weathered the storm a bit better, and nascent platforms that have a strong story, will need these individuals to navigate broadly across the spectrum of dormant investors, who appear to be ready to re-up with the market “reset” generally behind us. Stay turned over the next few weeks for more on how I see it, as we await the dawn of 2011.
