DALLAS-Stratford Land has hired industry veteran Steve Sanders as director of investments for Texas. With 26 years of industry experience, he replaces Kevin Watson, who now serves as president of the company.
Sanders, who left Jones Lang LaSalle to join the local land investment management company, will be responsible for sourcing investment opportunities. He will focus on major Texas markets including Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.
In his new role, Sanders will focus not only on acquisitions, but also joint venture partnerships and lending. “Part of my responsibility is to put money out there in loans,” he notes.
Stratford Land has raised a $750 million fund with plans to deploy it into six markets. “It’s opportunistic, so there isn’t an exact allocation for each market,” Sanders says.
Stratford Land was one of Sanders’ clients when he worked for JLL in Austin. “I handled their work as a broker on the acquisitions side,” he explains. “We liked working together.”
Sanders tells GlobeSt.com that he and Stratford Land first discussed the possibility of him joining the company three years ago. He served as an area director and senior vice president in JLL’s Austin office. He joined the firm after its 2008 merger with Staubach Co., where he was a partner.
At JLL/Staubach, Sanders focused primarily on land acquisition and disposition for corporate, educational and public sector clients including the City of San Antonio, Texas State University, The Hartford, Apple Computers, Concordia College, Cisco and Austin Community College. He also worked extensively with the State of Texas, the General Land Office and the University of Texas System.
Prior to joining JLL, Sanders worked in development in Texas and much of the southeast US for a diversified group of developers including Partners Development, Pizzuti and Faison. As a developer, he produced over 1.8 million square feet of retail, office and industrial space.
