WHITE PLAINS, NY-Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has named Tim Roby senior vice president of sales for North America. In this role, Roby will lead Starwood’s North America division sales, field sales and catering and convention services teams for owned and managed hotels across all nine Starwood brands.
Roby will also be a key member of the global sales leadership team with a focus on emerging markets and international inbound business capitalizing on Starwood’s global growth. He will begin his new role, based here, in January and will report to Denise Coll, president of Starwood’s North America division.
Roby brings to Starwood more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience. Most recently, Roby served as president and CEO of the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, a position he held since 2006. In that role, he was responsible for leading the sales and marketing organization charged with bringing business and leisure travelers to Chicago. He also directed the sales and marketing strategies for McCormick Place--the largest convention center in the United States.
Previously, Roby was senior vice president of sales and marketing for Kerzner International Resorts, where he was responsible for the sales and marketing strategies for the Atlantis Resort and Casino, the One and Only Ocean Club, Paradise Island Vacations Wholesale Co., the Atlantis Marina and the Harborside timeshare rental property. He also held leadership roles with the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and the Hyatt Hotels Corp., with assignments in Dallas; Los Angeles; Irvine, CA; Long Beach, CA; and Minneapolis.
