ATLANTA-Phil Barry has joined Avison Young’s Atlanta brokerage as a principal and member of the office properties group. He comes to Avison from Grubb & Ellis Atlanta, where he was a senior vice president in the Private Capital Markets group.
Barry will offer his deep real estate expertise—running the gamut from investment sales and acquisitions to build-to-suit development to landlord tenant leasing, to Avison’s Atlanta operations. Avison opened its Atlanta office in January 2010. The firm also opened offices in Washington, D.C., Houston, Tyson’s Corner, VA, and Boston over the past year.
“I am very pleased that Phil has decided to join Avison Young,” says Steve Dils, principal and managing director of Avison Young’s Atlanta office. “Phil is the most consistently professional broker I have had the pleasure to work with, and he will bring a tremendous depth of real estate knowledge to our firm.”
Barry launched his real estate career in 1971. He has provided real estate solutions to owners and tenants of all product types, including office, industrial, retail and land, and been involved in significant mixed-use landmark developments.
Barry joined Grubb & Ellis in 1994 as an investment specialist and member of the national Private Capital Markets Practice Group. Over the past 16 years, he has represented clients in real estate transactions totaling more than $500 million. He has been a consistent top producer over the past decade.
Over the years, Barry has built a strong book of clients. Those clients include Kaiser Permanente, Room & Board, The Boston Page of Consulting Group, BCD Travel, NORO Management, Liberty Mutual, Harbert Management, and Ocwen Financial.
“Avison Young’s holistic approach to providing best-in-class real estate solutions creates a compelling value proposition for our clients,” says Barry. “The combination of Avison Young’s vision and leadership, shared standards and values—along with its passion for excellence—will allow us to create added value for our clients.”
Barry’s son, Hilton Barry, also joined Avison Young’s Atlanta office. He came on board as a senior associate in the office properties group. A graduate of Kennesaw State University, he was formerly with Grubb & Ellis in Atlanta for 11 years. Grubb & Ellis could not immediately be reached for comment.
