MIAMI-BNY Mellon Wealth Management is moving into new offices at 1450 Brickell. The firm is doubling its space to meet the needs of an expanding staff and a growing business in its new Southeast U.S. region headquarters on the 27th floor of the class A building.
Craig Sutherland, the Miami-based president of BNY Mellon’s Southeast region, tells GlobeSt.com the firm’s year-over-year sales in Florida have grown 20%. Sutherland has hired several private bankers, portfolio managers and sales people in the past year and plans to add more staff in the coming months.
“Our expansion reflects the fact that this is a strong market for our services and that there is still a real need for good wealth management advice,” Sutherland says. “Miami has long been a gateway for people and businesses from Latin America. Now it’s increasingly drawing people from all over the world be it for business, to establish a second home, or for retirement. This is turning Miami into a truly international city that brings vitality than can only strengthen our economy and civic life.”
BNY Mellon Wealth management entered the Florida market with a single office in 1997. Since then, the firm has grown its portfolio almost 15-fold, opened six additional offices and expanded its staff to more than 80 wealth management professionals. Sutherland says BNY chose 1450 Brickell for its new Southeast headquarters, in part, because of its green design.
“As a company that deeply feels a responsibility to living ‘green’ we wanted to be in a LEED certified office building,” Sutherland says. “Additionally we felt the location was more convenient for our clients and the amenities in the building were top-notch—just as our clients would expect. And of course, it doesn’t hurt to have breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay.”
Sutherland says BNY did explore relationships with several other buildings, but he declined to share which ones. BNY formerly occupied 6,500 square feet on the 30th floor of 1111 Brickell.
