DALLAS-Hines has hired Ran Holman as a vice president of development for its Southwest Region. He will lead the firm’s commercial development efforts in the Metroplex and will focus primarily on the office, industrial and multifamily sectors.

Most recently, Holman was founder/principal of Extant Commercial LLC, a Dallas-based firm that provided sourcing, advisory and underwriting services to institutional and private commercial real estate investors, as well as offering brokerage and construction management services in key Texas markets.

“When the Hines opportunity surfaced, it was intriguing to me because of my respect for Hines and what they’ve accomplished here in Dallas,” Holman says, pointing to well-known Hines projects here including the Galleria and Chase Tower in the Dallas Arts District. “In my view, Hines is one of the world’s premier developers.”

Holman tells GlobeSt.com that the Metroplex offers a huge opportunity for development. “One of the things that I love about where we are now is that we didn’t overbuild in the last cycle – we rode the clutch and didn’t go crazy,” he contends. “Texas today, unlike the late ‘80s, is a place you want to be. That’s why I am very enthused about the opportunities that are ahead.”

In fact, Holman believes there are so many development opportunities that he will be “sipping from a fire hydrant” during his first months on the job. But, he is quick to assure GlobeSt.com that Hines will continue to approach all opportunities with caution. “We want to have our eyes open and be smart and responsive to the market,” he adds.

In addition to his role with Extant Commercial, Holman served as vice president of real estate development for Opus West Corp. where he was responsible for the firm’s North Texas real estate operations. He also invested a number of years with Cawley Wilcox, a local commercial real estate firm, and CB Richard Ellis.
