PARIS-Unibail-Rodamco plans to finish its new 860,800-square-foot mall by the end of 2013, the company recently announced. The firm plans to invest about $459 million to build the Aeroville center at the crossroads of the A1 motorway and the Francilienne ring road.
The mall is to include 200 shops, 25 restaurants and more retail offerings. Tenants signed so far include an Auchan hypermarket.
Architect Philippe Chiambaretta is designing the mall over a single level with separate themed areas, including Nordic Chic, Tokyo Mix, Tropical Design, Bali Market and Africa Lodge. The project will also be green, with a 40% reduction in energy consumption compared to centers built in the early 2000s, according to the developer in a statement. Sustainability features are to include glass walls and underground parking. The property is also being built on a brownfield, according to Unibail-Rodamco records.
Michel Dessolain, director of general strategy for the developer, said the design of each store is important to the overall effect. “Aeroville will be pleased to welcome a collection of unique flagships and entirely new concepts, together with the best international retailers," Dessolain said in a statement.
