WYCKOFF, NJ-Members of the ShopRite of Wyckoff development team have introduced revised site plans for a proposed 62,174-square-foot supermarket at the intersection of Wyckoff and Greenwood avenues here. The Wyckoff Design Review Board unanimously approved the architectural plans for the development, which will replace two long-vacant retail buildings, in January.

Revisions include amended layouts and additional parking that have little or no impact on the building designs. ShopRite parent Inserra Supermarkets has been presenting its redevelopment plans to the township’s various boards, including Design Review, Planning and Shade Tree Commission, for the past nine months. No opening date has been announced.

“ShopRite of Wyckoff is not a ‘big-box’ store. In fact, the proposed building is actually smaller, in total building square footage, than the combined square footage of the two buildings that are already there,” says attorney James Jaworski, who is representing Inserra Supermarkets in its Planning Board application, in a statement. “The supermarket, and its self-contained departments, has been carefully planned and designed to fit into the township’s existing landscape.”

Plans call for an uninhabitable 53,000-square-foot A&P building that has been vacant for more than a decade and an adjacent 11,700-square-foot unoccupied retail center to be razed to create the new ShopRite, which will be the second supermarket in the township.

The development team also is working with Bergen County on a Traffic Signal Warrant Analysis. Extensive field studies indicate the development will require a traffic signal at the corner of Greenwood and Wyckoff avenues, with Inserra offering to pay all costs for the installation.
