Jersey Gardens Launches Rooftop Solar Panel Installation

ELIZABETH, NJ-The 4.8 megawatt array is the largest in North America and sixth largest in the world, says mall owner Glimcher Realty Trust.

ELIZABETH, NJ-Local, state and Glimcher Realty Trust officials gathered at Glimcher’s Jersey Gardens mall here today to officially launch the installation of the largest rooftop solar array in North America, and the sixth largest in the world-at least for now.

The 4.8-megawatt array, to be built in two phases through the fall, will eventually provide 11% of the 1.3 million-square-foot mall’s energy needs. The installation is the first at a Glimcher property, said Glimcher president Marshall Loeb at the launch ceremony. Glimcher Realty Trust owns 23 malls around the United States. “We’re thrilled to have our first solar project in New Jersey, and hope to follow up with 22 more for all our 23 properties,” Loeb said. “We think Jersey Gardens was perfect for this, as it was built on a brownfield.”
