(Mark Your Calendars: RealShare HOTELS 2011, September 15 in New York City)

MEDINA, SAUDI ARABIA-Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has joined with locally-based Saudi Brothers Commercial Co. to open two hotels here with 475 rooms. The Sheraton Medina Hotel and Four Points by Sheraton Medina, to be built adjacent to one another, will open in Q4 2012.

The two hotels are being built for the annual Hajj and Umrah religious pilgrims who come to visit the nearby Prophet’s Mosque (where the Prophet Muhammad is buried) and Jannat al-Baqi (Garden of Heaven). Referred to as the “city of the prophet”, Medina is the second holy city for Muslims and the first capital of Islam, as well as being the home of the King Fahad Quran Printing Press, where millions of Qurans are printed and distributed throughout the world every year. Only Muslims are allowed to enter the city.

Guido de Wilde, SVP with Starwood Middle East, said the hotels underline the commitment to the company’s continued growth in the region. The company operates 10 hotels in the country under the Sheraton, Westin and Le Meridien brands, including the local Le Meridien Hotel. “This beautiful city is rich in culture and history, and we are confident that the facilities and services offered by our new hotels will be appreciated by the pilgrims visiting the holy city.”

The new Sheraton hotel will include 297 rooms. The Four Points will have 178 rooms. Both hotels will have restaurants.
