CENTURY CITY, CA-Investment banking firm George Smith Partners has hired Bryan Shaffer as a senior vice president and Malcolm Davies as a vice president. In a move to expand the company’s presence in the San Diego market, Davies will divide his time between San Diego and the GSP headquarters in Century City.
According to David Rifkind, principal and managing director of George Smith Partners, the addition of the new members to the GSP team reflects a change in the capital markets. “We are starting to see an increase in our business as the capital market recovers,” explained Rifkind. “New and returning investors are flooding the market looking for financing, and through our expertise, as well as hiring additional players who are highly skilled, we have been steadily increasing the size of our team to accommodate the new financing demand.”
Davies and Shaffer both bring extensive backgrounds in finance, and experience in coordinating financing across the country and worldwide, Rifkind noted. Regarding the expansion in San Diego, GSP principal and managing director Gary Mozer commented, “San Diego has been a strong market for our firm for many years, and now with the addition of a local San Diego resident, we can provide better real time coverage to the market.”
Davies
Shaffer has more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience, with over $4 billion in transactions completed throughout his career. Previously serving at Mitsui Real Estate Sales USA, for eight years, Shaffer financed, repositioned and sold more than 85 properties valued at $1.5 billion.
Shaffer holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and real estate from the University of Arizona. He is the founder of the International Real Estate Trade Organization, and is actively involved in many other industry associations and philanthropy groups.
Davies, who lives in the La Jolla area of San Diego, is an experienced developer, investor and capital provider with more than 12 years of real estate investment experience. He previously served as CEO of CANVAZ Cos. and principal of Davies Investments Inc., where he acquired, managed and sold real estate projects in excess of $275 million.
Raised in Singapore, Davies possesses dual citizenship in the US and United Kingdom. He received his bachelor of science degree in regional development from the University of Arizona.
