This could be called the Year of the REIT. Public money and rising confidence have created transactional juggernauts in hospitality that have muscled out the competition. But 2011 has also brought hope across the board as the “AIG effect” wears off, boutique hotels rise and OTAs and brands learn to live together in a tentative truce.

Real Estate Forum’s Annual Hotel Power Panel, held at the Marriott Marquis in New York City in conjunction with the NYU Tisch Center Hospitality Conference, gathered a panel exuberant about a limited construction pipeline and wary about government’s stability, immigration reform and travel visas.
