LOS ANGELES-Los Angeles-based CityView, the urban investment and development firm of former HUD secretary Henry Cisneros, was slated to unveil its 161-unit West 27th Place student housing development at the University of Southern California Thursday. L.A.-based Symphony Development developed the 410-bed project at the corner of 530 W. 27th St. and 2700 S. Figueroa St. on behalf of CityView. The project, which is seeking LEED Platinum certification, will provide 10,000 square feet of shops and restaurants in addition to housing for USC students.

The complex is now fully leased and students are moving in before the new school year starts, according to an announcement regarding the opening. The complex features units ranging from studios to four bedrooms, with square footages ranging from 425 to 1,364.

The developers note that the project is situated near ample public transportation, including a stop on USC Transit’s A Route and a station on the new Expo light rail line. The parking garage offers preferred spaces for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles as well as abundant bicycle storage. Building amenities include a pool, a spa, a fitness center and a recreation room.

The West 27th Street development will be the first student housing building in the nation to achieve LEED Platinum certification, according to David Hilliard, president of Symphony Development. It also will be one of only four LEED Platinum-certified developments in Los Angeles and the only residential project in L.A. with that designation if it achieves the Platinum rating, according to Hilliard.
