MARINA DEL REY, CA-Villa Marina Marketplace has signed a 34,318-square-foot AMC Dine-In Theatre as a new tenant for the $25 million redevelopment of the 419,000-square-foot specialty retail center. AMC joins Equinox Fitness as one of the new anchors at the center, which is at 13450 and 13455 Maxella Ave.

Senior vice president John Schupp of Jones Lang LaSalle, which is the property manager and leasing agent for the center, says that the theater is scheduled to open in late spring 2012. Schupp explained that the dine-in theater combines restaurant cuisine and cocktails with auditoriums that will feature upgraded seating advance reserved seating and seat-side service.

Mark McDonald, executive vice president for global development at AMC, says that the company chose to bring the dine-in concept to Villa Marina Marketplace after “our success with this concept in other markets.”

JLL senior vice president William P Huelsman said that, in addition to the new AMC theater and Equinox Fitness Club, Villa Marina will include a new white-tablecloth and fast casual food along with a complement of high-end retailers. The redevelopment will feature mid-century modern design in a two-level format, tagged “Mid-Century Modern Meets the Beach,” by Seattle-based architectural firm Callison LLC. The redevelopment is scheduled to begin fall of 2011 with a completion date in summer of 2012. The remodeled specialty center will be designed to “capitalize on the outdoor lifestyle of Southern California and the beach community,” according to an announcement regarding the redevelopment.
