Resnick
LOS ANGELES-Canada’s Avison Young has opened its first office in Los Angeles, naming industry veteran Neil Resnick to lead the operation, and has announced plans to open additional offices in the L.A. market. Resnick, who formerly was with Grubb & Ellis Co. in West Los Angeles, tells GlobeSt.com that the new Avison Young L.A. team is now in temporary quarters in about 1,000 square feet at 100 Glendon Ave. in Westwood while looking for a permanent office on the Westside. Joining Resnick at the new L.A. office of Avison Young are director Matthew Wallace and marketing coordinator Meryl Ong, also both formerly with Grubb & Ellis in West L.A.
Mark E. Rose, chair and CEO of Avison Young, says that the company "considers Los Angeles, and the entirety of Southern California, to be one of the most critical real estate markets in the US" and that the opening of the West L.A. office "is the first critical step in a much larger plan to be a very active player in key West Coast markets." Earl Webb, Avison Young’s president, US operations, adds that, “In addition to the West Los Angeles office, we expect to open a number of offices in L.A. and throughout Southern California in order to effectively cover the entire market.”
Wallace
Resnick joins Avison Young as a principal with responsibilities as a member of Avison Young’s local executive management team and as a senior broker. He notes that the Toronto-based company is a full-service commercial real estate firm offering a range of services including office, industrial and retail leasing as well as tenant representation services, property acquisitions and dispositions, corporate advisory services, mortgage financing, property management; and consulting and research.
Avison Young, which is Canada’s largest independently owned commercial real estate services company, has grown from 11 to 25 offices and from 300 to more than 800 real estate professionals across Canada and the US over the past two and a half years. Its recent growth includes the opening of a new office in Boston, the acquisition of Millennium Realty Advisors and a new office in Dallas. The West L.A. office is the company’s eighth outside of Canada.
Ong
When asked by GlobeSt.com if he is looking for more commercial real estate pros for the new Avison Young office, Resnick said, “Absolutely, and I’m hoping they will be looking for me.” He says the plan for the new office is “to grow to the extent that we are capably servicing the entirety of the business community.”
Resnick started his career in commercial real estate in 1986 with CB Richard Ellis, then known as Coldwell Banker, specializing in office-tenant representation. He has represented tenants across the business spectrum, but his primary business focus has been in the representation of creative/entertainment and multi-media firms. He joined the West Los Angeles office of Grubb & Ellis in 2001 as a senior vice president and in 2004 was promoted to EVP and managing director overseeing the day-to-day operations of the branch. In 2007, he re-entered the transaction services arm of Grubb & Ellis.
Wallace, before joining Avison Young, was an associate in the West Los Angeles office of Grubb & Ellis, assisting the team with project support and due diligence. Ong was with the Grubb & Ellis West L.A. office for three years as marketing coordinator. Grubb & Ellis declined to comment on the Resnick team’s move, explaining that, as a matter of policy, the company does not comment regarding the departure of employees.
