NEWPORT BEACH, CA-The Newport Beach City Council has approved plans for Mariner's Pointe, a mixed-use project on one of the most prominent corners of the city's Mariner's Mile that will include retail and restaurant space designed by Stoutenborough Inc. Architects and Planners. The property is owned by brother and sister, Glenn and Eva Verdult, who will locate their Winston's Jewelry store along with high-end retail and restaurants on the site, according to an announcement about the development from Stoutenborough.
The project is being developed by Ridgeway Development, also from Newport Beach. Tod Ridgeway says of the project that it has been in the works for a year and a half and will represent "revitalization" and "a renaissance for Mariner's Mile."
The 20,000-square-foot project will feature a three-level parking facility, "providing the look and feel of a Mediterranean village," according to Stoutenborough. The firm's announcement adds, "The project will create a high-quality destination on what is now an area of disrepair and brings a welcome identity to a location that has been debated for more than 15 years."
Architect J. Todd Stoutenborough says of the project, "Creating a project that serves the community, the tenants, the owners and the environment on this site was a challenge that required a lot of careful planning and design. We're delighted that the City Council sees that this project is a wonderful addition to the community."
The Stoutenborough announcement quoted Newport Beach City Council members Ed Selich, Rush Hill and Keith Curry regarding their support of the new center, which they described as well designed and an enhancement to Mariner's Mile that is also sensitive to the neighbors and their concerns.
