LEE COUNTY, IL-During a current trip to Beijing, Gov. Pat Quinn announced Monday that a company there, Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology Co. Ltd., will build a $200 million wind farm here. Goldwind is one of the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturers.

The company will break ground on the project, dubbed Shady Oaks, in the fall, according to a governor’s statement Monday. Once online, the project will provide enough electricity for about 25,000 homes.

Quinn said in the statement that the new business opening is part of a state mission to double exports and develop partnerships in emerging technology fields. “Our state has the resources, human capital and innovative drive to expand our global reach,” he said. Nearly 30 Chinese companies have invested in Illinois.

Wu Gang, chairman and CEO of Goldwind, said in the statement that the United States is a key component of the company’s international growth. The company, based in Xinjiang, established a headquarters in Chicago in 2010 to oversee operations in the Americas. The firm raised about $1 billion in an initial public offering in 2010, but has had dwindling profits since then.
