BEACHWOOD, OH-DDR Corp., based here, said Thursday that it believes it will have all nine of its empty former Borders book stores reoccupied by the end of the year. The shopping center giant said it has found tenants for six of the properties, and is negotiating for users for the three remaining sites.

The locations are in Puerto Rico, New Jersey, Georgia, Ohio and Missouri. The storefronts had minimal downtime, said Paul Freddo, senior EVP of leasing and development, in a company statement.

Stein Mart will open in two of the properties, at the 306,000-square-foot Johns Creek Town Center in Atlanta and the 440,000-square-foot Plaza at Sunset Hills in St. Louis.

In New Jersey, buybuyBABY will open a new store at the 1.1-million-square-foot Nassau Park Pavilion in Princeton, and Books-A-Million assumed the former Borders lease at the 843,000-square-foot Wrangleboro Consumer Square in Mays Landing.

Cosmetics retailer ULTA will open in the former Borders at the 183,000-square-foot Uptown Solon in Cleveland. PetSmart is opening at the 636,000-square-foot Plaza Escorial in Carolina, Puerto Rico.

The company is owner and manager of 546 centers in 41 states, Puerto Rico and Brazil. The company said in the statement that it is finalizing the negotiations with retailers to lease the three remaining former Borders within its portfolio, and expects these to complete in the fourth quarter.
