LOS ANGELES-GlobeSt.com has added veteran business reporter Morris Newman to its West Coast editorial team. Newman will work with editor Natalie Dolce to report on daily news transactions and analysis for the western region. He will also contribute to national print magazine Real Estate Forum. Forum and GlobeSt.com are produced by ALM’s Real Estate Media Group.

Newman replaces Bob Howard, who is retiring after 11 years with GlobeSt.com. “We are delighted to bring a person with Morris’s background and experience to GlobeSt.com,” says content director John Salustri. “He’s written about nearly everything from development and finance to land use, and that’s the far-ranging skill set required for this job.”

Born in New York and a longtime Los Angeles resident, Newman has written more than 3,000 bylined pieces during his 25-year career. His work has appeared frequently in sister publication Real Estate Forum, as well as The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Architecture magazine, Landscape Architecture magazine, Planning magazine and National Real Estate Investor. He is also the author of two books on commercial architecture and has been either a contributor or editor of several others. A professional journalist with a high industry presence, Morris has also been a contributing editor to the Lusk Center for Real Estate Development and has moderated events for the Urban Land Institute, Women in Commercial Real Estate and Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design among others. He attended the University of Colorado and the University of California at Los Angeles.

“I am honored to be working with a website with the prominence of GlobeSt.com, and to have such a high-visibility website as my regular address,” says Newman. “The only problem is having to follow on the heels of a popular and well-established presence like Bob Howard.”

Howard, himself, did not seem to share the concern. “Morris has nothing to worry about,” Howard says. “Few people have his background and knowledge base. I expect that he will do very well indeed.”

Howard points out that “GlobeSt.com has been one of the best jobs I’ve ever had, and I am old enough to have had many, which is why I’m retiring. It’s been a great source of personal satisfaction.”

Michael Desiato, vice president and group publisher of ALM’s Real Estate Media Group, sees the transition from Howard to Newman as a sign of changing times. “Bob has been a keystone in GlobeSt.com’s growth since its inception and during a turbulent rise-and-downturn of the industry,” he states. “It’s appropriate that Morris come on board during a prolonged recovery, as we face new post-recessionary market realities. It will be a new and exciting time.”
