ATLANTA- Retired CBRE exec Marshall J. “Skip” Beebe passed away on Monday night. The veteran commercial real estate broker was 67.
“Skip will always be remembered as the quintessential CBRE professional, who upheld our values daily and drew the most professional satisfaction from helping others to grow, succeed and prosper,” Brett White, CBRE’s CEO, said in a statement. “He touched many lives and influenced many careers at CBRE. Our entire community mourns his untimely passing, and our thoughts are with his family.”
Beebe joined CBRE in 1994. He held a number of leadership positions, including market leader of the Atlanta office and president of the Eastern Division. Beebe retired from CBRE in 2007. At that time, he was the firm’s Chief Learning Officer, responsible for the company’s professional development activities, including CBRE University. Beebe continued giving back even after he officially retired, serving as a mentor and counselor to CBRE professionals and teaching at CBRE University.
“Skip was a great friend and mentor,” John Ferguson, executive managing director, for CBRE Southeast, tells GlobeSt.com. “Despite his retirement from CBRE, we continued to lean on him for his expertise and vision. He will be greatly missed.”
Beebe began serving as the Ledbetter Professor of the Practice of Real Estate Development at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2009, where he continued his passion for helping real estate brokers succeed. Beebe graduated from Georgia Tech in 1966 with a degree in Industrial Management.
Beebe held senior roles at Cousins Properties before joining CBRE. He also served at Mobil Corp., establishing its real estate subsidiary in Atlanta. Earlier in his career he was president of Wilma Southeast.
Beebe was an active member of the Leadership Atlanta program and Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. He was also president of the Society of International Business Fellows program, president of the Urban Land Institute – council chairman and International Committee, and a director of the Enterprise Bank. Beebe is survived by his wife, Anne; son, Tom; daughter, Lane; and four grandchildren.
