Con Ed’s Bid to Evict Park 51 Developer Blocked

NEW YORK CITY-A Manhattan judge has thwarted the utility company’s effort to oust developer Sharif el-Gamal from the controversial Islamic Cultural Center site.

NEW YORK CITY- A Manhattan judge has enjoined Consolidated Edison from evicting a would-be developer from a property near Ground Zero where he wants to install a controversial mosque and community center, collectively known as Park51. Manhattan Justice Richard F. Braun granted 51 Park Place and developer Sharif el-Gamal a so-called Yellowstone injunction blocking the utility from ejecting 51 Park Place for allegedly violating a default notice issued on Sept. 14.
