NEW YORK CITY-The Fashion Institute of Technology has renewed and extended its lease at 236 W. 27th St., where the fashion and design school maintains offices. The lease, which is for 45,130 square feet in the building, is for a 7-year term.

Roughly one third of FIT’s space in the building was expiring, which necessitated the renewal, a spokesman tells GlobeSt.com. Other blocks of space that the school occupies there had varying expiration dates and were bundled and renewed.

“FIT is an important part of New York City’s Fashion District,” said Colliers International executive managing director Perry Mesmer in a prepared statement. “It’s great that they can remain in their office space so close to their central building. Mesmer represented the landlord, while Grant Greenspan, of the Kaufman Organization, represented FIT.
