NEW YORK CITY-The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership has tapped Tucker Reed to be its next president. COO Michael Burke has been serving as interim president since inaugural president Joe Chan departed earlier this year.

Reed comes to the DBP from Two Trees Management Corp., where he is currently the director of Special Projects. His past work includes posts as the executive director of the DUMBO Improvement District and as chief of staff of the Baghdad Provincial Reconstruction Team in Iraq.

“There is something very special happening in Brooklyn right now, a significant moment in the history of our city, as job growth, entrepreneurship and residential development shifts the focus to Kings County,” Reed said in a prepared statement. "I could not be more excited to be joining the Partnership and helping to support the creative forces that will shape the future of the borough."

A link between the public and private sectors in the redevelopment of Downtown Brooklyn, the partnership has been in existence since 2006 and has since overseen $200 million in public investments. In his new role, Reed will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s $6.7 million budget, developing policy initiatives and overseeing multiple business improvement districts in the area.

Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert Steel said that a rejuvenated Downtown Brooklyn “is one of Mayor Bloomberg’s most important economic development priorities.” He added that his office looked forward to continuing to work with the DBP.

Reed will begin at the DBP January 9, 2012.
