LOS ANGELES-Things are shifting at CBRE as two major executives move into new roles. The company has revealed that Michael F. Smith has been promoted to president of the company’s Western division, a role recently vacated by Steven A. Swerdlow, who moves into the newly created position of chief operating officer of the Americas.

According to a company statement, Swerdlow has led CBRE’s operations in the Western US and Latin America since 2007. For five years prior to that, he headed the company’s Global Corporate Services business. He joined CBRE in 1990 as New York City market leader and subsequently served as president of the Tri-State region and the Eastern division.

In his new role, Swerdlow will oversee the research and marketing departments, continue to manage operations in Latin America and handle both the Canada and Valuation & Advisory Services operations.

Smith will take on some of Swerdlow’s former responsibilities, directing CBRE’s operations in over 46 offices in nine states. Smith has been a part of the company since 1999. During his tenure, he has managed each of the Bay Area offices and has twice won the CBRE President’s Award for outstanding achievement.
