NEW YORK CITY-Famous for its women’s shoes and handbags, designer Christian Louboutin is expanding into men’s footwear with its new store in Manhattan. According to a statement from TF Cornerstone, the Parisian designer will open its inaugural men’s retail outlet at TF Cornerstone’s 808-10 Washington St., leaving only one empty space at the address.
The long-term lease was negotiated via RKF, and the store will take over 1,035-square feet of ground-floor space in the luxury apartment building. Loubouton’s men’s outlet is set to open in late spring 2012.
“The Meatpacking District is rapidly becoming a shopping mecca and this new store will add to the neighborhood’s cache,” Steve Gonzalez, retail leasing manager for TF Cornerstone was quoted as saying in the company’s statement.
The remaining retail space at 808-10 Washington is 875-square-feet and was newly renovated. It is available for immediate occupancy. The designer boutique’s decision to move into this area seems to be part of a larger trend upon which GlobeSt.com reported earlier this year. A recent article highlighted that Midtown South – including the Meatpacking District, Chelsea and the Flatiron District – experienced positive absorption, with the area seeing 620,000 square feet of new leasing activity, according to figures from CBRE.
