NEW YORK CITY-Skanksa USA, the American development arm of the Swedish construction company, has signed a third contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the Second Avenue subway project. The firm signed an $87 million deal for track work under phase I of the construction plan.

The company has teamed up with joint venture partner LK Comstock and Co., a subsidiary of RailWorks, to construct track, train signals, communications systems and traction power between 105th Street and the existing subway station at 63rd Street. The JV will also construct three rail cross-overs along this route, which will allow trains to switch tracks in case of emergency. Work will commence in February 2012 with anticipated completion in fall 2016.

The deal is the third in a series of several lucrative contracts. Last year, Skanska and RailWorks Corp. were also awarded $513.7 million from the Hudson Yards Development Corporation for completion of the 7 subway line extension to Manhattan’s Far West Side, while a JV of Skanska and Evansville, IN-based Traylor Brothers Inc. received a $301-million contract to build the 86th Street Station for the ongoing Second Avenue subway, with Skanska holding a 70% share in the deal.
