NEW YORK CITY-A crane cable snapped at 10 am this morning dropping a load of steel up to 40 stories at the World Trade Center construction site, the New York Daily News reports. According to eyewitnesses, the metal had nearly reached the top of the structure before it fell onto a flatbed truck. The accident occurred at 10 am by Building 4, which is located near Church and Cortland Streets at the site’s southeast corner.

According to the news provider, only the crane operator was injured, but he refused medical treatment. Workers at the site were evacuated to the now-vacant Zuccotti Park while the situation was assessed. After the incident, the area was sealed by police so inspectors could determine that cause of the cable cord’s breakage.

WTC construction has hit its fair share of snags lately. Globest.com recently reported on reconstruction costs going well over budget and up to $14.8 billion as a result of “mismanagement” and overpaid salaries, a recent report showed.
