Shoplifting
This weekend I stopped by the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue in NYC to pick up a gadget for my iPhone. Instead of hunting down a sales person among the crush of shoppers, I took the item off the shelf, scanned the barcode with my iPhone using the new Apple Store App to conclude the purchase, and walked out of the store with zero human intervention. I admit that I did look over my shoulder to see if I was being followed by a security type for shoplifting, but instead, I was thanked on my way out by a happy Apple worker for using the new Apple Store App. Remember the days when gadgets were locked behind sliding glass doors, or encased in bulky plastic containers with security alarms ready to apprehend customer thieves? It’s a new day – ponder how Apple’s breakthrough on the purchasing front will yet again change the course of retailing. It’s only a matter of time.
