WALL, NJ-The state’s largest renewable energy company, Trinity Solar, held a ribbon-cutting this month celebrating its move to a larger facility to accommodate its steadily growing workforce.
Trinity Solar relocated from a 35,000-square-foot space in Freehold to a 140,000-square-foot-facility on Allenwood Road, off Route 34 South.
"The company has grown so quickly that it was necessary for us to find another location and this building is an ideal spot as it provides us immediate access to major highways,” says Tom Pollock, co-founder and chief executive officer of Trinity. Trinity’s workforce nearly doubled over the past four years to 400 employees, Pollock says.
Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno made the official ribbon-cut at the Feb. 10 ceremony and called Trinity Solar “a true New Jersey success story.” The company, which designs and installs solar electric systems, started as Trinity Heating and Air, Inc., based in Freehold. In 2004, it changed its name to Trinity Solar and launched a stint of rapid growth.
It is now the largest installer of solar systems in New Jersey, the largest solar integrator on the East Coast, and one of the top installers in the nation. Starting with a workforce of 26 in 2004, Trinity employed 212 workers by 2010, and today has 400 people on the payroll, including management, administrative, sales and installer positions.
Ed Merrick, vice president of Trinity Solar, says the company has served over 18,000 NJ homeowners and businesses and takes pride in being nominated for a NJ Business of the Year award.
New Jersey leads the nation in the commercial installation of solar panels. It is second in residential installations. As of December, state officials said, New Jersey counted 13,000 solar photovoltaic projects that produce over 530 megawatts.
Under legislation signed by Governor Chris Christie that supports efforts to expand use of solar panels on brownfields and land fields, the panels are exempt from certain land use restrictions. The state supports the dual environmental and economic benefits of returning otherwise valueless sites to beneficial use, the governor said at the time he signed the measure.
Wall Township Mayor Jeff Foster comments, “Trinity Solar is a clean Wall-friendly business, a great ratable and they're taking over an abandoned building. We wish Trinity Solar much success in the future and hope they continue to grow."
The company was ranked No. 783 last year in Inc. magazine's annual ranking of fastest-growing privately-held companies. It was ranked No. 23 among energy companies and is the largest company in the solar industry.
