MIAMI—The Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science broke ground in Downtown Miami’s Museum Park, promising another element in the 24/7, culturally rich city officials are working to develop. The new museum is scheduled to open its doors to the public by early 2015.

“The new Miami Science Museum will be a cultural asset for our more than 70,000 residents and an international attraction for visitors,” Alyce Robertson, executive director of the Miami Downtown Development Authority, tells GlobeSt.com. “Its cutting-edge design and unique educational exhibits will bring new people from around the world and expose them to all that Downtown Miami has to offer.”

Grimshaw Architects designed the 250,000-square-foot complex, which aims to be among the world’s most innovative and sustainable science museums by demonstrating ecological principles. For example, the building will harness energy from water, sun, wind and even museum visitors to power exhibits and conserve resources.
