ARLINGTON,VA-Interstate China will manage Shanghai’s first Hilton Worldwide-franchised hotel in China, the DoubleTree by Hilton Shanghai-Pudong. According to Interstate, the 850-room building was owned by Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels (Group) Co. Ltd and switched to the DoubleTree-branded Hilton Shanghai-Pudong on February 28. The company is planning a multi-million dollar renovation of the hotel property.
“Interstate China, our joint venture with Jin Jiang Hotels, is a business model that we have successfully implemented in other regions globally,” says Jim Abrahamson, Interstate’s chief executive officer.
The company says as part of the Doubletree’s facelift, it will be building a new ballroom spanning 8,000 square feet. Additional facilities to be spruced up are all food and beverage outlets, retail spaces and meeting and banquet rooms. Currently, the hotel offers 16,000 square feet of meeting space and fitness facilities including a pool, exercise room and men’s and women’s saunas.
Interstate officials could not be reached for direct comment at press time.
