Newark on My Mind

Newark has been on a roll lately, with topping off ceremonies at the Courtyard hotel, the opening of the Food Depot mentioned in a previous post and Fidelco’s redevelopment of a number of buildings on Market Street.

With all the groundbreakings and negotiations to bring even more construction to Newark, do Mayor Cory Booker and Deputy Mayor Adam Zipkin have time to do anything else?

Seriously – it seems like I’ve been writing about the city constantly. In last week’s State of the City address, Booker noted that over $700 million of construction projects are under way in the city, and announced the construction of a new speculative, 250,000-square-foot distribution center on Lister Avenue along the Passaic River in the Ironbound, to be developed by the Morris Companies. The construction jobs the reported $40 million project will bring are vital – but so are the permanent jobs.
