NEW YORK CITY-Just a week after Grubb & Ellis’ bankruptcy sale was approved by a Manhattan federal judge, another top G&E official has been poached by brokerage Lee & Associates NYC, Inc. Grubb’s senior regional vice president John Poblocki has joined Sierra Real Estate, the Manhattan property management affiliate of Lee NYC, GlobeSt.com has learned exclusively.
Poblocki, who was in charge of the Northeast and Southeast regions of G&E, managed more than 50 million square feet of commercial assets and corporate facilities for institutional and private owners in their New York office. He also served as senior vice president of property management at Cohen Brothers Realty.
The hire comes at a time when the firm is continuing to rapidly expand in the New York-metropolitan region. Sierra Real Estate, which manages more than 50 residential and commercial properties, joined forces with Lee NYC in November 2011, making it their second northeast location and its 44th in the US.
Since then, the company has hired 15 new people and opened a new office at 600 Madison Ave. – and plans only to get larger.
“I have been watching Sierra for a while and they have impressed me in their approach to management and the energy they seem to exude,” Poblocki says. “And now, with their partnership with Lee & Associates, the leverage and support this will mean to me will be ideal in how I can service my clients.”
During his tenure at Grubb and as managing director at CBRE, the 30-year veteran of the CRE industry has handled management assignments from Midtown to Downtown, including the Sony Building on Madison Avenue, 420 Fifth Ave., 125 Broad St., 67 Broad St., 50 Broadway, 14 Wall St., 22 Cortlandt St., 99 Church St., 55 E. 59th St., 460 Park Ave., 125 Park Ave., 150 E. 42nd St., 800 Second Ave., 475 Riverside Dr., the Paley Foundation Building at 1 E. 53rd St. and the Riverside Church and Union Theological Seminary.
Sierra currently manages office properties such as 875 Avenue of the Americas, 401 Washington St., 12 East 46th St. and 648 Broadway, as well as mixed-use residential buildings at 1125 Lexington Ave., 971 1st Ave., 244 E. 46th St., 783 Lexington Ave. and 12 East 60th St., according to the company website.
James Wacht, president of Sierra Real Estate, says that Poblocki's hire will be "instrumental" in raising the profile of the company's commercial property management services as the firm increases its footprint in Manhattan. "To get someone with as much talent and expertise as John has is phenomenal," he says, in a statement.
Earlier in the year, the firm has also hired ex-Grubb brokers Howard Rosen and John Cannon. Poblocki wasn't immediately available for additional comment.
