NEW YORK CITY-The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has launched a full-scale investigation following a crane collapse that occurred at the site of the 7 train extension project in Midtown after the accident killed one worker and injured another. As a result of the incident, the MTA says in a statement to GlobeSt.com on Wednesday afternoon that all work on the construction site has been suspended until the New York City Department of Buildings provides more information.

Authorities indentified the worker as Michael Simermeyer, 30, of Burlington, NJ, according to the Associated Press. He was employed by employed by subcontractor J&E Industries LLC, and the crane was owned and operated by Yonkers Contracting Co. Inc.

The incident occurred between 33rd and 34th streets on the east side of 11th Avenue, and the MTA says the organization vows “to do everything we can to ensure that everyone working on projects to better the lives of all New Yorkers can do so as safely as possible.”
