MIAMI—Miami is on the move—and in more ways than one. Swire Properties just sealed deals to redesign and enhance the Eighth Street Metromover station as part of its $1.05 billion Brickell CitiCentre mixed-use development. Construction is set to begin on the mixed-use development in the Brickell Financial district later this year.

“Investments in public transit, such as the new Airport Link, are critical to enhancing downtown Miami’s livability and destination status,” Alyce Robertson, executive director of the Miami Downtown Development Authority. “With these Metromover upgrades, Brickell CitiCentre is slated to become another anchor for Downtown’s thriving Brickell Financial District, enhancing the neighborhood’s 24/7 appeal among residents, businesses and visitors.”

After an extensive competitive public bid process and negotiation with Miami-Dade County staff, Swire’s project was formally approved by the Miami-Dade County Commission. The two-part compact with Miami Dade Transit provides for a land lease to Swire to integrate an adjacent parcel into the Brickell CitiCentre project.
