DUBAI-Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., based in Stamford, CT, has signed agreements to operate four more hotels in the Middle East, including three here and one in Erbil, Iraq. The deal with two separate development firms will include almost 2,000 new hotel rooms in the two cities.

Here, Starwood has signed with the Al Habtoor Group to open three hotels on a one-million-square-foot property on Sheikh Zayed Road. The properties will include a 241-key St. Regis Dubai, the 384-key W Dubai and the 1,179-key Westin Dubai, all opening in 2017.

Starwood already operates 15 hotels in Dubai, representing the second largest concentration of the company’s hotels in a single city outside of New York City, said Roeland Vos, president of the EMEA region for Starwood. “Dubai has surged over the years as a top destination for international travelers,” he said in a statement.

The company has also signed an agreement with BCD Co. to manage the Sheraton Erbil, a 260-key property that is Starwood’s first entry into Iraq in 20 years. The new hotel in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region, is being built along the country’s new ring road. Saad Aldoski, a partner at BCD Co., said the capital is working to become one of the country’s new commercial hubs.
