NEW YORK CITY-The RXR Realty-owned Starrett Lehigh building on West 26th street plays host to the West Chelsea Artists Open Studios this weekend. The kick-off reception previewing the work took place here last night and featured a comprehensive sampling of the artists participating in the event.
The Starrett Lehigh building seemed like a natural fit to host the exhibition, being that it is also home to a wide range of media, fashion, technology and arts companies. At 2.3 million square feet, the building is the largest in the region.
Via an emailed statement, RXR Realty was quoted as explaining that the company chose to host the event in order to “support the initiatives of the communities in which they operate.” Additionally, “a majority of the tenants are creatives and will be interested in meeting the artists and seeing the exhibits.”
Further the open studios provides RXR with an opportunity to “connect Starrett-Lehigh with the neighborhood and bring activity and energy into the public spaces of the building,” according to the same statement.
