TAICHUNG, TAIWAN-Savills has opened a second office in Taiwan, here in Taichung, or literally translated, central city. The city with 2.6 million people is known as the urban center of the country.

Savills opened its first office in Taiwain in Taipai, the country’s capital with seven million people, in April 2007. The company has done about $2.1 billion worth of property transactions in the country since the open.

However, company executives said the confidence in the country’s economic future, and property market, has prompted the second office. “The Taichung expansion was required because of the strong demand from both domestic and international clients,” said Cynthia Chu, a Savills managing director in the country, in statement. “Taichung is a city with an ample supply of ready-to-develop land and better property investment returns compared with Taipai.”

She said that most Taiwanese enterprises in China are originally from Taichung, and the city is the headquarters for firms such as Giant Manufacturing Co. (bicycles) and the tire maker Maxxis. Also, the city has one of the largest precision machinery industry clusters in the world, she said. The new office will be located at 25F-3 City Centre Plaza, and will serve clients in central and southern Taiwan.
