NEW YORK CITY-Mount Sinai Medical Center, in partnership with Westchester County-based WESTMED Practice Partners, will construct a new outpatient medical office at One Pierrepont Plaza within Forest City Ratner’s MetroTech complex in Downtown Brooklyn, the company officially announced in a statement after Crain’s New York Business broke the news back in April. Slated to open in January 2013, Mount Sinai’s Brooklyn Heights Medical Group will occupy 75,000 square feet on the 17th and 18th floors of the 19-story building for a 15-year term, where it will offer services such as primary and secondary care, diagnostic services and urgent care. The space was formerly occupied by Goldman Sachs.
A spokesman from Cushman & Wakefield confirms to GlobeSt.com that Jonathan Serko and David Malawer from C&W represented Mount Sinai on the deal, while a spokesman for CBRE says Howard Fiddle, Evan Haskell, Keith Caggiano and Roshan Shah repped Forest City. Asking rents, however, could not be confirmed in-time for deadline.
The deal was driven by the company’s desire to streamline office operations and medical services into one building. According to a statement from MSBHMG, the offices will run the gamut of health services, including cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, hematology/oncology, nephrology, rheumatology and vascular surgery, in addition to primary care needs. The Downtown Brooklyn location will also offer an urgent care center to provide patients and their families with walk-in extended hour access to healthcare seven days a week.
“Patients have been found to appreciate the one-stop shopping medical experience of an integrated multi-specialty medical practice,” says Simeon Schwartz, MD and CEO of WESTMED Practice Partners, in a statement. “It is our experience that they like the convenience of a doctor’s visit that includes clinical lab testing and radiology services all under one roof.”
Recently, anchor tenant Morgan Stanley renewed a 200,000-square-foot lease at One Pierrepont Plaza for a 10-year term. The building is part of the five-million-square-foot, 16-acre academic and technology office complex in the borough.
