The president and CEO tells Real Estate Forum editor-in-chief Sule Aygoren Carranza to expect more acquisitions in the sector due to several portfolios set to come onto the market.

  • Though there are new players coming onto the field, the student housing space remains highly fragmented. Still, there’s concern that inexperienced, over-aggressive investors will damage the sector’s hard-earned reputation with poor decision making
  • Rising cost of higher education is a huge issue that must be tackled. It even impacts business decisions: “When looking at schools, we’re always careful to ask, ‘Does this university have a value proposition to attract student here? Will this be an economically viable educational solution for people?’ ”
  • The next big trend in student housing development will be mixed-use, urban infill type product.
