SEATTLE-Locally based Colliers International recently released its Knowledge Leader Summer 2012 publication, where it focuses on all things retail. From luxury retailers to dollar stores, luxury centers to mom and pop stores, the issue covers it all.

The publication leads off with a cover story of Sally Smith, CEO of Buffalo Wild Wings, who talks about how the company has grown from a college hangout to a leading restaurant brand. Since Smith’s appointment 16 years ago to the position of president and CEO, she took the restaurant from a Midwestern chain of about 70 restaurants to an 837-restaurant chain, with a presence from coast to coast in the US and a growing presence in Canada.

The publication also featured executive insights with Mark Keschl, national director of retail, who calls this “the year of opportunity.” Keschl notes, however, that like any other year, retailers will still be under pressure to compete for the consumers' attention, but that, he says, “will drive a lot of innovation in the stores, focused not only on changing footprints and optimizing locations, but also on improving the customer experience.”

A few markets to watch in single-tenant net-lease investments, according to the publication, include banks, automotive, convenience, big box, drug, dollar, fast food, restaurant, and restaurant.

Also in the issue is: a roundtable interview with Colliers retail experts from across North America, discussing the vital trends and topics that will shape 2012; KC Conway's insights on supply and demand in retail real estate; a behind-the-scenes look at successful retailers A&W and Hobby Lobby; and a feature on the bills currently in front of Congress aimed at unifying taxation policies for internet retailers, a topic also brought up by David Henry, ICSC chairman and president and CEO of Kimco Realty Corp., at a recent ICSC RECon 2012 session attended by GlobeSt.com.
